Cyber Essentials Plus Accreditation

In May 2020 CTL embarked on attaining the 'Plus' annotation to the Cyber Essentials accreditation. After a grueling month of preparation, including significant updates to servers and IT devices, isolating IoT devices and their associated services to a separate network and their own Broadband service, and working through a long list of prerequisites, our Senior IT Engineer, attaining a well deserved 'Pass'.  At the time, it all seems a lot of expense and a huge amount of work with no real benefit, but of course, the benefits are silent ones; if done right, then the hard work pays off in terms of a massive reduction in possibility of a cyberattack, which, if happened, could easily outstrip any upfront investment.  Moreover, it is also a prerequisite for doing business with certain companies, including the MoD, with Cyber Essentials Plus showing a true commitment to cybersecurity, read more here.  A big thanks to the CTL Team for their part in CTL gaining this accreditation.

Keeping the NHS Safe

The lockdown has been a challenge for all of us, especially those on the frontline.
It was, therefore, the least we could do with our limited staff and equipment, to help print off some components for PPE for the NHS, and care homes in the local area.
Using our 3D printer we have been able to print off 2 variants of visor components.  The first one was quite complex and it caused a lot of blockages, but we managed to print quite a few.
We are now helping to fulfil an order for 700 head-restraints; all coordinated by Claire at T-Exchange Findhorn.
The last delivery was for 52 with a target of another 50 this week; every little helps as the saying goes.
Thanks to Luke who has been working around the clock to keep the 3D printer running.
And of course a big thanks to everyone helping us all to stay safe.

In the House of Commons Defence Questions session held on 18 Feb, the Member of Parliament for Moray (the Rt Hon Douglas Ross MP) raised the topic of Intermittent Fault Detection (IFD) testing - the first time IFD usage has been discussed in the UK Parliament.

Mr Ross's question can be seen in the video above: it was posed following a discussion on MoD work to review levels of employment for ex-military personnel.  Knowing Copernicus Technology is staffed predominantly by ex-RAF engineers and aircrew, and that we collaborate with US-based Universal Synaptics on IFD products used by the USDoD on several fleets, Mr Ross asked the Armed Forces Minister whether the MoD is looking to learn from the USDoD's IFD testing experience to increase Availability and reduce Support Costs.  In response the Minister (the Rt Hon Tobias Ellwood MP) has requested a dedicated meeting to discuss the topic.

Copernicus Technology delivers Training Management System to RAF Poseidon Fleet

Copernicus Technology RAF P8A Training Management System deliveryCopernicus Technology Ltd, via a contract with Defence Equipment & Support at the MOD, has successfully delivered a ground-breaking Training Management System - the Aquila Learning and Risk Management System (ALaRMS) - to support the Poseidon MRA Mk1 at RAF Lossiemouth.

ALaRMS, which is provided by Aquila Learning Ltd, enables organisations to analyse, design, deliver, and assure complex training programmes for high-risk occupations such as those in aviation.

The Poseidon Course Design Team of 54 Squadron can now progress a number of training streams that will ensure all aircrew, maintenance and mission support staff are effectively prepared as the Poseidon aircraft arrives in the UK in early 2020 and accelerates towards Full Operating Capability in 2024. Squadron Leader Rich Jones said:

“Having an application that was specifically built to manage and assure aviation training end to end is hugely beneficial. We can achieve so much more in a short amount of time, knowing that the training we produce is compliant with military training principles such as the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) and is fully optimised”.

Roo Hornby, the Copernicus Technology’s MPA/ISR Division Director, said “We have really enjoyed working with Aquila Learning in delivering ALaRMS for the Poseidon.  It is a very strong and innovative training management product for many other areas of the RAF, Defence and beyond”.

Mark Radbourne from Aquila Learning said “We are delighted to see ALaRMS, which adheres to DSAT requirements, being used exactly where it adds most value; right here on a flagship military programme such as the P-8A.  ALaRMS really is a game changer in training management and assurance, allowing for incredibly complex training systems to be managed and assured safely, effectively and efficiently”.
